Succulents and Other Plants
Our plants typically are offered in a few different pot/plug sizes depending on the type of plant and availability (typical pot sizes are listed with each plant). The typical pot size offered is listed with each plant. Bear in mind that although a large plant may look impressive, small plants tend to transplant better. Small plants are less root-bound and have less roots overall to disturb. They adapt more quickly and are less prone to shock.
- 4 inch pot - The most common pot size we offer for tomatoes, peppers, flowers, and herbs.
- 3 inch pot - We typically offer succulents and other miscellaneous plants in this size.
- 6 inch pot - We occasionally offer larger-size plants in these pots.
- 72-cell or 6-pack size - Veggies and some annual flowers are often offered at this size.
- 98-cell - Onion starts are offered in this size which is slightly smaller than 6-pack size.
- Peat pot - Melons and squash are offered in peat pots because of their sensitive roots. Plant the entire pot in the ground to avoid harming the roots; the roots will grow right through the peat. These pots are about the size of a 3 inch pot.
- 12 inch hanging basket - Large flowers are offered in these pots.
A fun plant for kids of all ages! The leaves will fold up and collapse when touched, shaken, placed in the dark, or when it is too hot. Several minutes later the plant will reopen, ready to play again. Sensitive plants do best outdoors in the summer in full to part sun, but can thrive in a bright windowsill too. They will do best if the top layer of soil is allowed to dry between waterings; they can be susceptible to root rot. Mature sensitive plants will develop small, rounded, fluffy pink flowers and will grow thorns.
Available in a 4" pot for most of the season. Protect from cold temperatures.
Spider plants make easy and fun houseplants or summertime container plants. The long, grass-like leaves can get nearly 24" long, and mature plants will send out baby plants on long stems. Allow soil to become mostly dry between waterings. Can tolerate partial sun (if acclimated slowly), but does well in shade too.
Available in a 3" or 4" pot for most of the season. Protect from cold temperatures.
Aloe is an attractive and useful succulent-type plant that does well indoors or outdoors. The gel inside the leaves can be used to help soothe sunburn. Mature plants will send out pups that will slowly fill the pot or container it is in. It will tolerate low light and can do well in full sun if slowly acclimated. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Available in a 4" pot for most of the season. Protect from cold temperatures.
We offer a wide range of succulents; scroll through the photos to get an idea of what may be available. Succulents are easy to grow and can tolerate both low light and full sun (if acclimated). The key to growing succulents is to plant them in well draining soil and make sure the soil dries fully between waterings. If your succulent gets over-watered and the base begins to rot, don't panic! Cut the entire plant off above the rot, and stick the cut end in lightly moistened, fresh soil. The plant will root from this cutting. Single leaves or small stems can be placed in soil in a similar way to easily propagate most succulents. Under the right conditions (good light and little moisture) many succulents will reward you with unique blossoms once each year.
Available in a 3" or 4" pot for most of the season. Sometimes we will offer large, mature jades and other succulents in 5 gallon pots. Protect from cold temperatures.
