Tomatoes

Red slicers are very versatile and popular for eating fresh and cooking. The varieties we grow are large, round, beefsteak-types with flesh that is meaty, juicy, flavorful, and sweet! We typically offer large, individual tomatoes that make perfect sandwich slices, as well as smaller tomatoes in quart boxes that are more suited for cooking purposes or small snacks. During peak season we may offer bulk, imperfect tomatoes for canning.
Availability: Regular, July-September
Storage recommendations: Tomatoes keep best at room temperature, protected from direct sunlight. Carefully selecting which tomatoes you purchase will determine how long they will keep. Tomatoes that are softer with more red tones are near to fully ripe and should be used as soon as possible before they develop bad spots. Tomatoes that are firmer with more orange tones are less ripe and may keep up to two weeks as they ripen to full sweetness.

Romas are medium-sized, oblong tomatoes with a similar flavor to typical slicing tomatoes. Due to their firm, meaty flesh with less moisture and smaller seed cavities, romas are particularly suited to cooking purposes such as in sauces, salsas, and as pizza toppings. We typically offer romas in quart boxes. During peak season we may offer bulk, imperfect tomatoes for canning.
